Swapping beds

I found a rust free dually pick up bed on CL. I made a deal on it today to trade it for my flatbed. It is red too . I like the flatbed, but I think the pick up bed will make the truck look a lot better.

Good deal Bill! I liked the flat bed as well, but you will be happier in the long run most likely! Like Aaron said, I could come help as well with the swap....

"Swapping beds" huh? Who's in the other bed? LOL

Another dually at the party, ya!! Flatbeds are cool but a trailer will do everything that a flatbed can. Sounds like a good choice, is there much to be done other then swap the two?

Nope. Should be a simple swap. I'll have to get a tailgate painted to match it, but other than that, it should be easy.

It's red. Looks like the same red in the pics. He said the clear coat was peeling on top the dually fenders, so it will need painted. Probably just paint the whole truck later on.

Sounds great to me Bill. I love mine and never would go back to a single rear wheel. I'm not a flatbed guy either. One thing I'll mention is there is not much access to getting over the side of the box with the fenders in the way. Most things have to be accessed from the rear. It doesn't bother me at all, just thought I'd mention the obvious.

Bill, is your truck a cab & Chasis or did it have a bed on it at one time? I don't recall which it is. If it is a C&C the frame will be narrower, and the bed will have to have new holes drilled for the bed bolts. I like both the flat beds and the factory beds, depending on how the truck is used.

^^^^^ Plus, IIRC, there isn't a C&C wheelbase that corresponds to the 8-foot pickup bed. Either it'll be too short, or you'll have a gap.

I don't think Ford made a four door 4X4 C&C in OBS trucks. I think Bill's truck came from the factory as a single wheel pick up truck and was converted into a dually as was my.

it was a single to dual conversion job.thats the great thing.it could be a single again with just a set of wheels.
