Yea, the STINK of it all is the cops think they were scrappers.
I don't see the point of taking your axle if they are scrappers, all it is a pure steel axle and that's like 150 a ton? if that, steels worthless to scrap, plus it'd take 2 guys to get that heavy thing out of there.
The side work thing sounds quite good though, money is always nice.

Yea, I don't see the point in stealing $1000 custom order hydraulic motors either!! (6 of them!) He's got insurance, but it takes a long time to get them built. Can't say they are too sharp! They caught some last year trying to scrap manhole covers.....that had "City of Fort Myers" cast into them!
Went to the shop this AM.....they sure did some damage. They cut a hole in the fence, cut the phone lines, got in through one of the large roll up doors, closed it behind them and went on a shopping spree. Loaded up a customers trailer with everything and drove out. They've got security video of them. He said the cops were laughing a little when they were trying to load his 2.5 ton Rockwells out of his platform buggy! 3 guys were on video....They changed their mind when they tried grabbing a hold of those Rockwells!!! With the video....we hope they get caught.
Anyway, back of topic, the owner has been building some custom hunting buggies for alot of people down here over the years, and fabrication work for these guys going to Redneck Yacht Club. Found out we have a lot of the same friends and ran in the same circles! He said he'll help see if he can find another Dana 44. I told him I just sold some 1 ton axles, and he got a smile on his face and said he'd see what he could find!!
Well if it wasn't for the huge distance between you and I, I have a line on a D44 out of a 79 bronco. (free to me) I was gunna use it, but I'm undecided on my drivetrain yet (again!)
Thanks Mike. Been looking at a build on FSB for the 05+ Super Duty axles. Looks pretty feasible. Good looking rig. Don't know why there aren't more out there. (Maybe cost)???
Anyway, talked to the shop owner where I had my Dana 44 and he says it would be a pretty good build. I think he's more excited than I am! He's said he's gonna shop and see what he can find. I told him I don't have "Mad Money" to be spending!! He says not to worry. (When someone tells me not to worry....I WORRY!!) We'll see. He tells me that if we decide to do it, what small parts we don't get off of a wreck...he can fab. We just really need the axles and suspension.
I know the Dana 44 would be easier and probably quicker....but man, I like the looks of that build! I just don't want to get half way through a build and then see an UH-OH!!!
Not really rushing to find a 60 or Sterling rear, but stopped by the LKQ down here and inquired about an 05 or newer Dana 60 and Sterling rear end. Was quoted $400 for the Dana 60 and $500 for the rear with 4.30 gears. Is that a little low for the Dana 60??? I thought they were going for more than that. Is that the going rate?? Just curious.

$400 for a D60 and $500 for 10 1/2 out of a 05 or newer? Sounds like a steal to me.

Seemed low to me too. That's not including any radius arms, brackets or anything. Got a friend that goes to the insurance auctions down here and he said he would keep an eye out for me. Gonna go and take a look at the "U Pull It yard. They don't usually have anything that late model though.
But it's still an axle right? from rotor to rotor? Just no mounting hardware?
Didn't see the one at LKQ. I'm guessing hub to hub.....that's it. He told me there was nothing else with it. Going to look at an wrecked 06 F250 tomorrow. Guy says diesel engine is already gone. Told him all I'm interested in is the front axles and suspension with brackets. Even has the driveshafts. Heck, I may be able to get whats left.
Went to look at the wrecked 06 F250 4x4. 6.0 engine was sold, told him I wan't interested in the automatic trans or transfer case. He said he would pull off the smashed cab and he would keep the bed...I could have everything else. He quoted $1200.......I offered $1000 and he said ok if I help. That was last week. Go this week to give him the $1000 and start pulling it apart.
