From time to time my fuel gauge will drop from its current reading to empty. The low fuel indicator will come on and after a few minutes it will go back. Today I filled up on the way to work and currently it is showing I am empty. Im not sure what system is used to measure fuel. Any ideas? Wire chafing issue?
If you have a Scangauge, program it to show percentage fuel remaining. That will tell you what the computer thinks is in the tank. The gauge is a computer driven read-out of the computer data.
Ya it's corrosion, happened to me too. Good news is the tank is plastic and won't be affected. What I did was remove the fill pipe and clean it up good . Have you been using a fuel addictive? I'm guessing not. Anyway after I started using diesel kleen and super Tech 2 stroke oil my guage started working again after adout a month. I think the oil loosened up the crud on the slide rod and the slider knocked it off .
Mine was setting a CEL code . The computer is programmed to see the fuel level drop at a slow steady rate. When the slider gets hung up and drops a couple inches the engine light comes on. I believe it's to warn you of a fuel leak or ruptured tank. I also ran about 10 tank fulls with a quart of tranny fluid in each tank. I think if you use a little lube in you tank it will fix it . Mine's been working good for about a year now.
