I hear a lot of talk about tranny temp gauges. Was that a option from Ford because, my 2005 V 10 EDDIE B has it built in the cluster.
Notice how Ford gauges lack any numerical values on them?
All the dash "gauges" are dumbed down. The trans temp is cold, warm, or too hot. No way to actually tell whats happening, until its too late.
The 6.0 has lots of sensors avail via odb2 port, not sure how much the gas models provide, but that'll let you read the actual temps, pressures, etc.
Ultragauge, scangauge2, dashboss, pc software (forscan) and some smartphone apps available to let you "see" the sensor value via wired or even bluetooth enabled odb2 port adapters.

All 2005 automatic trucks had a trans temp gauge built into the cluster.
Contrary to what many people think it is a VERY accurate gauge. It isn't really useful, but it is accurate.
When the trans temp is below 50°F it will show cold. Once it is above 50°F it will show in the middle of normal until it hits 230°F. Then it goes to yellow. Many people say this is too late, that damage has already been done. They are wrong. Nothing in the trans will be damaged at 230°F. It will go to red at a higher temp, which I think is 250°F, but I don't remember if that is the correct number. You won't damage the trans at 250°F, either, but you don't want to stay at that temp for very long. Idle or fast in in park or neutral to cool the trans. NEVER shut the engine off when that trans is overheated! You'll cook it.

I finally get to correct Mark. My 03 has the factory gauge as well...

Actually, he didn't say Ford started putting them in trucks in '05, or that only '05's have them. He was just saying ALL '05 trucks had them. That they weren't optional equipment in '05.

Dangit Stewart cant you let me think I am smarter than Mark for a little while..
Sucks for pre-05 models. I added one to the 650 dash...put the sensor in the test port. Not the best location, but the best without tweaking anything. Anyone have guesstimates as to how much the 6.0 trans cooler might lower temps?

The test port is the best place to put it, I saw about a 30 degree drop in temps when towing after I put mine in..

I used the factory 6.0 lines when I installed mine, I can link you to my install thread if you want to go that route..
