Roll on Bed Liner

Anybody have any thoughts on which brand is the best or any experiences with the roll on bed liner that you do yourself? I know my buddy used it and likes it but he uses his truck as just a vehicle...I use mine as a real work truck with all kinds of stuff going into my bed. Any type of feed back would be great experiences good or bad.

I have had the hot spray in Line-x type and the DIY type.

The Line-x was wonderful and far surpassed my expectations from a bed liner. Really impressive stuff!

The DIY stuff I got was in a rattle can from Duplicolor to touch up a Line-x 15 years later. It looks good, but isn't really tough enough. After one or two loads of gravel and mulch the stuff came off of the raised bed bolts and tailgate. I wouldn't use this for a work truck, rather just something to protect the bed from light usage.

I've used Herculiner roll on (not spray on). Holds up well to abuse. Mixing the coating was an issue. The grit settles and the can states not to mix by shaking. Professional line-x or spray in is your best bet for a working truck. Worth the cost up front. I will use the DIY roll on for my 79 this month but only because its just for show/light use.

A member (ranger429) sells the Al's liner and it looks very impressive. Lots of guys have used it so you might PM him for details...?

Me personally, I love the Rhino liner (professionally sprayed on) but then again mine doesn't haul stuff daily. After 20+ yrs it still looks new. I roll on polyurethane once a year or so to keep it looking new, which adds a hard top coat to protect the rhino liner.

Regardless of which way you go, I would suggest to put 3-5 coats of polyurethane or something compareable on top of your liner, you will thank me later!!

This is a spray on kit made by SEM. Works great and so far pretty tough. If you have an air compressor all you need to buy is a shunt gun to spray it on with.

By the time I prepped the bed, covered the entire truck in plastic and masked off what I wanted it took the better part of a day but I'm pleased.

I would lean more towards the DIY spray-in, unless you can afford a Line-x. I used just a roll on years ago and hate it. But its peeling bad, I put it over rusteolum rusty metal primer, they don't like each other. Have a few friends that use Gator Grip bedliner in their plow trucks. Its holding up well. I will be stripping my bed, epoxy primer to seal it all up and probably Al's liner.

Choptop what did you prep with xylene? Or was it some other chemical. Thanks for all the info guys. I have seen the herculiner and the duplucolor but have also seen the rustoleum version as well. But one thing I have never heard of is putting poly down on top of the bed liner. Im a carpenter by trade so I am very familar with the product but has anyone else done that before too? I would like to see a picture of it if you dont mind...Im not denying that it works just want to see how it is before I decide to put that on my truck.

I've used herculiner on many projects. I would have to say I was less then impressed with it in my bed. I did the inside of my jeep and make sure your prep extreamly well and do a couple thin coats rather then one heavy coat. As for exterior application it shrinks over time from uv rays and breaks down. I believe there is a uv protector for it .

I painted the bed with POR 15, sanded it, then wiped it down with either acetone, xylene, or methalethalkeytone (MEK) don't remember which one.
