Thought I'd share some info with you guys about running extended OCI and what I'm seeing out of my truck. I normally run 5k on the T6 and use the big Donaldson filters. With the 2 layoffs I just went through, I decided to try out 7500 and see what the analysis said. Couple of background things first. This truck runs fantastic, comp test on all cylinders were 380-400psi and she fires right up in the morning. On the 5k intervals, everything has always come back in the acceptable, normal wear categories and the levels have almost always been very close to each other. On the 7500, all PPM were almost doubled. The lead levels were elevated to the point where I think I will test it again at 2500 just to see. The test suggested the lead could be due to pre mature turbo failure, rod or main bearing particules. I know I have pushed the stock turbo to its limits with these stage 2's, so that's where my money is. I think tomorrow I'll pull the intake and check for play. Anyway, sorry for the novel, just giving y'all a little food for thought.
Its a tough call Todd. The mule starting showing those signs of high lead and I had a fairly new D66 on there. You might just be extending your OCI's to much? Besides, isn't plowing pretty hard on the motor with old oil?

I think you're right Glenn in the fact that I probably just extended it too far. I don't plow with this truck. CCLB with a ZF5 would be a nightmare to plow in. Not to mention I don't want my almost everyday rig to be subjected to that abuse. I don't tow all the time with this truck, but it's somewhat often and usually around 10k. I'll inspect the turbo tomorrow and see what I can see.
No. Changed it at 7500. Runnin the ol FL-1995 right now as well. Still with the T6 though. I got the Rotella at Menards on sale for 18 a gallon. I'd love to try Schaeffers, but I'm a pick my oil off the shelf kind of guy.

I'd like to try the Shaeffers too. I think there is a place not far from me that carries it. I've been using Motocraft for a while now.
If you order over $350.00 worth of product delivery is free from Schaeffer's. You can call them and order directly without going through a rep. The 7000 is under $100.00 for 5 gallons.
While you guys are on the topic of T6 oil or synthetic for that matter, I have a question. I bought my truck with 130,000 on it and was thinking of switching to the T6, I only drive the truck maybe 3,000 miles or a little more per you so I will only be changing the oil once per year. I don't know if the truck has ever had synthetic in it, would I see any ill effects from switching to the T6 if it has had dino in it all its life? I have heard that it will create leaks from cleaning all the gunk out of gaskets and nooks and crannies. How much truth is there to that?

I switched to T6 at around 150k and now have almost 200k. It was previously run on Dino. It was fine for my truck.
Is there any benefit to fuel mileage by running the T6? I will try and do some other searches and see what I can find also.
I don't think you will see any calculatable fuel mileage from switching the oil. If you did it would likely be in the hundredths or thousandths column..
Thanks, not really worth it for me to switch then when I only change oil once per year and if it is cold I most always have my truck plugged in, so not really a need for cold starts. I think if it was a daily driver I would switch.
When I ran Amsoil, I was expecting 20k mile plus changes (to justify the high cost), even running their bypass filter. I sent in for a test at 10k, and it came back like "Change your oil now!!" kind of thing. Lead was very high.
I gave up on the high cost of the synthetic and extended changes based on that experience.
I sold that truck 2 years ago to a local family at 185k miles and it's still going strong today, they haven't done a thing to it except put fuel in it and hopefully change the oil. Not sure what that test/reading was all about.
