Today I got my "inspection" done (please don't judge me on having to fudge it this one time) and started pulling stuff off of the truck to yank the motor. About 2.5 hours into it, so haven't got a lot done yet. No power tools either.
So far I have managed to unhook the exhaust at the manifolds and pull the starter. Lots on penetrating oil was needed on the exhaust, and I hand to unhook the back hanger to pull it back away from the engine. I also pulled a bellhousing bolt to size the bolts for the engine stand. Will post updates and pics as I have them. Please be patient with me on this, as I still have a full time job and family to take care of.
Lots of work ahead, but don't get excited about taking it apart w/o documenting things. I keep boxes of quart and gallon sized Zip-Lock bags and a Sharpie handy. And, a digital camera. Pictures are free and baggies are cheap. Lots of both.
You're busy, no judgment.
Congrats on getting it passed.
All bell housing bolts are 7/16-14
Drop the coolant and yank the radiator before you hurt it.
Will do. I need to grab a catch pan for it first. Tomorrow's to-do list. I'm glad I work in a military motor pool. I can borrow four long bolts for my stand.

I always do. Lots to do, so I have to pace myself. My goal is to get it out on Saturday. All week is prepping for the pull.
When you say "penetrating oil" I don't what brand you're using but if you don't have a can of PB Blaster I'd highly recommend it. Fantastic stuff! I've used it on exhaust bolts with one or two soakings and they come right off.

Busy night tonight. I got the radiator and hoses out, despite the bottom hose being a pain. Got to power steering pump and the alternator moved to the side. Heater hoses were disconnected. Carb and spacer were removed. I disconnected two plugs, but I have to label them first thing tomorrow night.
I must say, I'm thankful for the grime. It kept all my bolts lubed enough to remove by hand.
[EDIT] two quick questions though. First, I want to drain the rest of the block. Is there a drainplug for the block's coolant, and if so, where is it? Second, what's the easiest way to get the water pump pulley and fan off? It is unbolted, but stuck on itself maybe?
Well, I like your sig to a point - but it doesn't tell me what engine you have. However, the V8's have a pipe plug on each side to drain the block. The M/400 has one in the front and back on each side - assuming that's what you have.
EDIT: Forgot the waterpump and fan. Not sure I understand, but the fan comes off with four bolts in front, and the water pump has a million bolts. Then you take a mallet and hit it from the rear and if it doesn't go find the other bolt(s) you've missed.
Tap on the fan with a hammer, there's a round, center extension that fits into a mating hole in the fan, I'll bet that's what's holding it on (if all 4 bolts are removed).

I've got the 351M, and have the same plan as you have for Dad's, although milder. I'll get under it again tomorrow.
I'm going to try tapping the water pump pulley and fan shaft some more as well. I have unbolted the fan, but it seems stuck tight.
Sorry, I forgot. My excuse is old age. Or, maybe its the meds for the eyes. Anyway, I forgot.
Chris is right, the fan does stick on the center stub. And I missed two bolts getting the water pump off. Found one of them and it still wouldn't come. Then I found the other and it almost fell off.
