Return Lines Again!!!

Okay, so I know that return lines have a thread on every square inch of the Internet it seems, and I've looked and looked but never really answered my question so I decided to throw another one out. I have a 7.3 IDI in my '83 f-250 and it has been rough starting lately especially with this colder weather here in Pa. I went out this morning to start and it rolls over, but nothing, no smoke, doesn't even try. Glow plugs work( brand new) and fully functional. I found that my metal return line from the IP was a little wet where it splits to the back cylinders and the "back to tank line". There was deterioration and holes more a less worn through the rubber back to tank line right at that split. I need to know if this would cause my truck to not have fuel due to the air intrusion??? Any help appreciated.

1983 F-250 XLT reg cab custom steel flatbed, custom steel front bumper w/ warn winch, 33" BFG all terrains, 7.3 liter idi conversion, k&n high flow filter system, tuned injection pump, down-piped dual 3" exhaust, door pillar gauge pod with glow shift gauges, 4-speed automatic with heavy duty shift kit.

Yes, if air can leak in anywhere in the return system it will cause issues.

Okay, thank you. Of all the stuff I read, a straight answer to my question did not seem to exist. I just got out and got the truck running. I unhooked the line from the filter to the IP to make sure I had fuel to that point, and then bled everything out, gave it a small shot of starting fluid while it was cranking and it kicked over and came alive. I think I probably lost all my fuel pressure and it receded to the tanks cause not only was the return line cracked, but it was also parked nosed up hill which would let gravity aid in hurting me.
