I'm wondering if anyone else has run into this problem before. I had bronze valve guides installed several years ago. I have it all apart now and I noticed some cracks--in the cast iron surrounding the guide that sticks into the port. Of course, they have formed in the thinnest part of the cast. If you follow the link below there are pictures. The pictures are all taken from the combustion chamber side with valves removed.
'66 F100, 352, original stock heads (C6AE 6090R is the casting mark)
I really appreciate any input. I'm curious if it's the end of the road for these heads. They are not leaking anything (yet)...
Thanks Beechkid. I took them down the to machinist Friday and he wasn't terribly concerned about the cracks. Should know more in a couple of days. He didn't mention if he was going to do anything to the cracks - except take out the bronze and maybe put cast guides back in.
