FMX winding up?
I have a '66 F250 with a 352 and a FMX ("Cruise-O-Matic", my grandfather says). When I shift it into reverse after letting it warm up for 2-3 minutes, nothing happens. I have to goose it pretty hard to get it to engage. This isn't a new symptom (I bought it like that), but it is rather annoying. Anyway, the last couple of days, while driving home at night, it stays in first gear and just revs if I try to do anything over 10 mph for quite a while, then suddenly, it will shift into second and then the transmission seems to act fine. It has enough fluid and once it finally shifts, it works fine for the rest of the trip, but this is very disturbing, since the truck is my only mode of transportation. Any ideas on what is wrong? Are the difficulties with reverse and this new problem related?
