Hello all. I was trying to determine how to read the metal tag on my rear differential in an attempt to figure out what rear gear I have.
The plate reads: "3 V 414 F" on the top line and "731053L03" on the bottom line. Can anyone help me out? It's a 2004 Super Duty 4x4 Crew Cab XLT with the 5.4 gas.
Thanks in advance!
OK. I pulled the tag and cleaned it so this is how it reads:
3 V 414 F
3.73 10 5 3L03
The top line indicates the place of manufacture (V=VanDyke) 414 is the model number and the F is "revision identifier....whatever that is. Can't figure out what the very first 3 means, but oh well.
The bottom line, according to Ford, it's a 3.73 with a 10.5' ring gear and was manufactured on December 3, 2003, hence the "L" (twelfth letter in the alphabet for month of manufacture)
