I have swapped out my alternator on my 91 4cyl. ranger. Original alternator tested for bad regulator as did the replacement. When the third alternator came up with the same, I do not believe that this is the issue. It will now go back and forth getting a good reading on the dash guage and then not. Where should I look first? It is giving enough juice to keep the vehicle running, but who knows how long, etc.
Also, when I am getting a good reading on the dash guage, it tests as good. When I am not it tests as bad regulator. As I have stated, I understand that this is not the problem, and it doesn't feel like a fuse either. maybe a plug connection, but...
Yeah, it does sound like a bad connection somewhere. Theres 2 fuses under the hood in the power dist box. Flip the lid over & the illustration should tell you where fuse 3 & 7 are. Make sure they are tight in their holders.
Also make sure the small solid red wire at the starter relay has a clean tight connection.
