Runability issues

I have a 1987 f150 300 EFI with 4 speed manual, had issues with low idle and trying to die. Did full time up: plugs, wires, cap, rotor, and pcv. Didn't help much with the issue, did some online lurking, found out that occasionally TPS and IAC can cause these issues, replaced both parts. After replacing these parts initial startup had strong idle but would then drop worse than before and die unless given gas. On my way home from work, throttle stuck way open, shut off and back on stayed stuck open. Got home shut it off, came back out about 45 minutes later and tried to start it, it now won't stay running and chugs with a gas smell like its dumping fuel. Any and all suggestions would be helpful.

Run a self test and check the computer codes.

Gotta agree with BVA.

Also, pull vacuum line off regulator and see if gas pours out. If it has failed, then you should see gas pouring out the nipple. Turn the key to start position, and pull vac line off. Pumps will run for 1-2 seconds and you'll know then.

Last but not least....the 4.9 EFI is plagued with leaking, bulging, or blown capacitors. Check what has been mentioned 1st, post DTC's, yes or no on failed fuel psi regulator.

I haven't had a chance to pull codes yet, however with it dying the way it is I don't know if I'll be able to pull codes while its running. Last night I did however pull the vacuum off of the pressure regulator and there does not seem to be fuel coming from it. Is it possible that it has failed even with the lack of fuel coming from it?

I don't know for sure if it just sucks in to the vacuum line or not to be a bad FPR but when mine was bad it would die just sitting at idle and then was hard to start. And when this first started happening, i had no fuel in the vac line either. but it did smell like fuel bad! I also pulled my oil dipstick out and the oil smelled like fuel because of fuel goiing directly in the crankcase. But later on after about a week and a half I pulled the vac. line off again and there was fuel in it, so I replaced it. I have a 88 5.0 Also do you have a fuel pressure tester? you can check the FPR by hooking it up to the schrader valve on the fuel rail the pressure should increase about 5-10 lbs with the vacuum line off, the FPR.
