I am finally getting around to removing my 390 from my 73 SCS and need some advice. I recently sold a 351W from a 84 f150 that i had beefed up a little but i took the carb off of it. It is the motorcraft/holley 50264 4brl with the egr crap on it and it was for an auto transmission.
My question is will this carb work on a 73 390. I think it is either a 585cfm or a 600 which was in the range i was thinking about. It has a 2brl on it now so i am buying an edelbrock manifold for a four barrel but i was thinking about trying to save that 400 bucks i would drop on a carb.
Any input will be appreciated, dont be shy if it is a horrible idea tell me.
IMHO, there should not be any problem with it, it might be a little lean for the 390. Check the Holley catalog to see what the baseline settings and jets are for it and then run it and look at the plugs to see what they look like before you start messing with it
Had a sudden thought, there were some Ford Holleys that had a reversed idle screw, like on the Mustangs, don't know all of the specifics of who, what, where, when, or why
Verify whether or not the linkage for the AOD/TVS cable will not interfere with anything and you get full throttle blade opening and you should be good. If the previous tranny was not an AOD, no problem with the kickdown linkage
