Anyone have a fix for fueling ? When at thepump filling up it keeps kicking pump off I pulled the filler neck and cut out some of the hose inside and I'm ready to just cut it apart and rebuild a straight thru filler neck cause sitting at the pump in sub zero weather for 20 min sucks lol
A 1996 has OBD-II, so I assume it has the Evaporative Emissions System that can test itself. Any trouble codes?
With the fancy OBD-II EES, besides the evaporative canister purge valve that the PCM pulses to allow the engine to pull in and burn evaporative fumes, there is also a Canister Vent Valve. The Vent Valve is a normally-open valve that allows air (and fumes) in the gas tank to move into the carbon canister, especially when refueling. If the "air" can't get out of the tank that way, then fuel will not easily go in, as the air now forced up the filler neck as the only way out interrupts the fuel going down, clicking off the station pump.
I think the only time the Canister Vent Valve is ever closed is when the PCM runs one of the evaporative tests. If the solenoid vent valve was stuck closed, or plugged totally, I would think it would fail one of the onboard evaporative tests and set a trouble code. But what if it was open a small amount, enough to pass the test, but not open enough to let the large quantity of air go by when refueling? Could just as well be a hose to/from the valve that is partially plugged or collapsed.
