trouble at start up

Hey guys, my sister-in-laws Escape has some trouble when you start it. What it does is....you start it, second later it shuts off. the only way to get it goin is crank it and press the gas for a couple seconds. Seems to mostly do this in the morning or after a while when the car has cooled back down.
Need some help....
what do yall think it is? bad sensor or something...
thanx
Gabe

trouble at start up

My 2001 Escape had a similar problem, I took it into the dealer (had to ride the gas pedal and the brake to keep it running to get it there). It was the idle air valve (if I'm remembering the name of the part correctly) and it had let a build up of carbon and junk clog my air filter and the throttle body. Had to have it cleaned out and that valve replaced. Not covered by the extended warranty and it ran just under $400. with the labor. No further problems with it dying on me since then.

Thanks for the help. I'll let my brother know. He told me the other day its not a constant thing...it does it when ever it feels like it. I wonder if it is that valve---if its something we can fix??
Ill keep ya updated!
Thanx
Gabriel

It does sound like the IAC valve. The are about $80 and if you have the V6, it's right on top. 2 bolts and you're done.
