I started the truck today. It fired right up. Thirty second in the smoke started. Thick white and grey. Has a miss at idle but still revs up quickly. Has plenty of oil but needs a change.
Idm? I have a windshield leak...
Cps? Haven't changed it in a while....
Uvhc? Needs to be done....
UVCH or outer harness for glow plugs especially. Maybe glow plugs, only way to know what is going on is test. Possible injector orings or a sticky injector when cold. What does the fuel in your fuel bowl look like? Crappy oil can cause a bad running truck too, so that would be a good place to start.
Sound like its running out of fuel. Check fuel filter first. If thats ok then it could be the pickups in the tanks. when I dropped mine the pickup screens were almost completely plugged with goo, plus the rubber crumbled in my hands. Good luck!
I do get a check engine light with the chip turned up but I believe it is hpop related because it happens when I am pulling the trailer or doing a seat of the pants test.
It could be fuel related I will pull the filter tomorrow. The truck has sat the last few months and is started every couple weeks.
A little more back history.
3 weeks ago we took it out and it started missing and smoking right away. Not to bad just enough to be annoying. Thought I would move it today but the amount of ole generated had the neighbor hood fogged in.
A bad harness wouldn't cause oil dripping from the DP and turbo. You may have severely blown one or more o-rings on the injectors and you are loosing ICP. If you are blowing that much oil out the exhaust, this a possibility. The oil in the DP and turbo could also be coming from the turbo itself if the seals are blown in the turbo. You need to figure out exactly where it is coming from. You may have two separate issues. Take the cap off the fuel bowl and see if the filter and fuel in the bowl are black. That is a good indication of blown injector o-rings.
Forgot to mention that the duke filter is clean. Took the ebpv out and considering deleting it. I have av exhaust leak some where around it as well. I will look at the up pipes while it is apart.
When I get a few minutes I do a little work. I am very sure the black dripping from the exhaust is fuel and soot. I pulled the the ebpv to remove the butterfly and left it sitting on some rags. When I came back the white rags were yellow.
So what can make the injectors stock open? They are less than two years old from Jim so I don't think they are the problem.
Not likely a sticky injector if they are fairly new from Jim. How cold is it where you are? You could have a bad gp or two not warming up cylinders too. I'd be testing the uvch, and pulling the downpipe to look for oil next.
DP is out just fuel and soot. Not too cold. Fires up and starts putting on a serious smoke show and missing. It was really bad on the drive to the dump and didn't clear up after running a while.
