Need some 4x4 help .... Not engaging
Well I made it up to TN without any issues. Expy did me proud.
However, I just noticed an issue with my 4x4 not engaging. All the indicator lights on the dash light up upon staring the Expy, but when I put her in N and select any range on the switch, nothing happens. No lights come on and I don't hear or notice the transfer case engaging.
Anybody have any ideas? Is there some fuses I can check or relays?
My back is kind of against the wall right now and have limited access to parts store (20 miles away).
The 4x4 worked perfectly when I bought the Expy a couple months ago, but now she ain't going into any other range than 2H.
The Expy in question is my 98 EB edition listed below.
I have the selector switch that has 4 positions 2H, AWD, 4H and 4L
Please let me know what you guys think.
I'm working off a cell phone so sorry for strange post and spelling errors.
Well I was able to find a test light and hit all the fuses..... Everything looked good. I pulled the center dash garnish off and started poking around at the selector switch. I unplugged it and started testing. The light blue wire with red stripe had power to it.... Dunno much about electrical systems and I don have a diagram handy so I was shooting in the dark to be honest.
I started poking my test light in each terminal and all of a sudden the AWD light came on. I was like well getting somewheres finally. The connector to both the switch and wire harness looked good but I gave them a good cleaning and reconnected the switch. Won't you know it, the lights came on when selected and i now get the old girl to lunged forward in 4L again. Man what a relief!
The area I am in , in TN got hammered last night with snow ad I barely made it up my gravel driveway. I thought I was stuck like chuck guys. Brig up in the mountains with no 4x4 is a PiTA!
Anywho. All ranges seem to work and indicator lights are illuminating according to the selection. So only time will tell for now. May venture out down the mountain later before nightfall and see if she's performing.
As always thanks guys.... Major travel issue corrected just by simply cleaning connections.
