I have a 1995 F350, 460, E4OD, I have had a problem with the rpms changing. If I am driving at 65mph(in overdrive) and I slowly try to accelerate,the tach will drop from around 2300-2400rpm down to below 2000rpm, if I then just let up on the gas, it will then jump back up to 2300-2400 again. I took it to a dealer to have it checked out. They told me there were no error codes and everything looked good. I was glad nothing expensive was needing replacing, but something isn't "right". I was thinking of replacing the throttle position sensor. It also seems to vary when I am driving 35-40mph. Any ideas would be appreciated.
Weird! This is probably a shot in the dark, but my tach was fluctuating by 5 or 6 hundred rpm at freeway speed, but seemed OK going slower. Problem was a loose connection in the tach signal wire. Something to check if you have an aftermarket tach. Or if the wire insulation is worn through and it shorting intermittently to ground (happened with aftermarket tach in my previous tach where wire went through firewall).
TallPaul, The engine speed changes with the tach, so when I try to accelerate the engine speed drops and the tach drops. Were you just having your tach change or both. Also it is a factory tach. Thanks

My tach was flipping around at constant road/engine speed. If your engine speed actually drops with the tach while trying to accelerate, then it seems like your experiencing some kind of bogging or hesitation.
My truck use to do the same. ended up was a bad connection on the battery so when pulling extra current it would drop.
So I would say loose connection somewhere.
