Did I Kill My A/c?
I have a '94 Aerostar dual air (r134a) 3.0 Liter. The vent temp was fluctuating between 45-65 degrees then recently 55-75 degrees. I bought a gauge (low press side only) that has the red/yellow/green/blue pressure designations on the gauge (very high,high,good,low) my pressure was at the low end of high (approx 45 psi). so I bled off pressure from the low pressure side until it was reading approx 20 psi, then added the freon that was enclosed with the gauge (also contained a leak stopper & oil). Low side pressure came back to about 43 psi. Front vent temp now only goes to about 80, rear is a little lower. Compressor is still running, but is cycling a little.

Yes I am king of the idiots.
Tomorrow I am taking it to a pro , but what can I expect the problem to be & cost? I don't know a good local a/c guy, so how will I know if I am being ripped off?

First, don't ever discharge freon into the atmosphere. The EPA does not like that and if you are caught doing it very hefty fines are imposed to the tune of $25,000+. Second, don't ever trust those cheap auto parts stores guages. Get a quality guage set that has both high and low side guages. My guess is that the AC is low on freon. You probably wold need to get the system evacuated and recharged.

May have a clogged orfice tube. Compressor may be coming apart inside. My 92 C&^%Y Astro van does this. I have replaced the orfice tube once then cleaned it about a month later. Lots of metal shavings. The compressor makes no abnormal noises but is self-destructing internally.
