I own a 93 F-150 XLT (124,000 miles) and can't seem to figure out why the truck all of a sudden dies. New exhaust (converter back), new starter and new fuel filter were recently installed. I'll be driving down the road and all of sudden it acts like its not geting any fuel. The truck usually stays running (electrical) but it won't accelerate, eventually it starts moving again but I'm at a loss. I also bled the shrader valve and also drove it with the gas caps loose but still the same results. I'm thinking it might be the fuel pump(stock) or the relay. I also replaced the plugs, wires, cap and button- also ran a bottle of water evaparator thru.
Any help is appreciated.

Could be the pick-up coil in the distributor, They act like it is running out of fuel when they go bad. It will reun fine, then act like it leans out from lack of fuel after it runs for awhile, then after it sits for a bit, it will run good for a little while then do it again.

Just a thought. It sounds like what happened to me on a 92 rig. It was the cat. An internal piece had come loose and when I accelerated the engine stalled or ran rough, then restarted when the loose piece fell back into place. I know of a few others with cats that went out in the 92- 94 era. John
"Profile Ignition Pickup" (PIP) - it's the Hall-effect sensor that tells the ignition module that the rotor is in the right position to fire the coil, and the EEC also uses it to know if the engine is turning, and how fast. It's under the rotor.
No, there's no check valve in the filter. There's a bypass valve, but that wouldn't have any effect. The only effect is that as the filter ages, it will block itself off MUCH faster.
I have a problem similar to what your talking about here. My 92 Explorer will be driving along fine then the engine starts sputtering and I lose the ability to excelerate. If I place the car in nuetral, turn the ignition switch off then back on it works fine for a while, then does it again. Also the problem does not happen if I'm above about 35 MPH, when I go below that it does it. It will also not do it when the car has been sitting, but as soon as I drive 25 to 30 miles it starts.
Could this be the same problem? And if so will replacing the PIP work?
Steve83, I appreciate your responce and the speed in which it came, but I don't understand. I've worked on my own cars all my life but these new computerized systems have always made me apprehensive about the work so please forgive my inexperience in this arena. I know I can get a box that will give me the codes, and the codes will diagnose a problem. But what do you mean by check the pressure?
Is there a device that I do that with and where do I get this?
What exactly am I looking for when I do both of these?
