Replacement for a code b trans

Ok , I'm looking for a replacement for my crappy worn out ford 4speed I believe it's a t170ft . A couple of weeks ago it started making some really bad noise . My options are to rebuild or to replace. I do work the truck a good amout so I would want somthing strong . I have red some post on how the t170 is a week pos . My ? Is what would be a derect replacement for my truck that has a 302 efi . I was thinking a t18 or t19. Would they work? Plz help thx alot

Your tranny if it's the model you suspect it is, had overdrive. The t18 and t19 do not have overdrive. Take your truck and drive it on the interstate with your tranny in 3rd gear. How do you like this? If you don't you need to stick with a overdrive tranny like a 5 speed. If you don't mind it, then you can install a t18 or t19.

Yes I don't mind not having over drive. So a t18 would bolt right in? I don't need any adapters? Thx for the help

Also the truck is 4x4 will the transfer case be a problem? It is mounted right to the trans

You'll need a T18 or t19 that came with the 4WD due to output shaft size differences.

Ok cool, I found a t18 out of a truck that had 50,000 miles on it for 250$. It had 4x4 . It will be my fist trans swap . Any advice?

The way I've done it:

1) Remove the transfer case

2) The transmission can come out using a floor jack

3) A transmission jack is necessary for reassembly, that shaft needs to fit into that hole (no comments, please

) and minute adjustments are necessary
