E40D build
I picked up a 95 E40D from a stoker here a few weeks ago with the intent to build it and drop it in behind my IDI. To be on the safe side, im going to say i want the transmission to be able to handle 600bhp as a DD / tow rig. Ive read and heard alot about upgrading various parts in this transmission to get the all around best. What i havent read, is a parts list of such parts. To get the ball rolling i was going to pick up Suncoast's
ford-e4od-xtreme-duty-master-rebuild-kit/. To augment that i was looking at either the transgo-tugger/ or the e4od-transgo-pumpaccum-kit/. From there is where im in over my head. Things like billit inputs, drums, and dual load center supports. I was also looking at the 427-line-mod-valve/. I dont want chatter your teeth shifts, but when going 2-3 up a 6% grade grossing 25k i want it to shift, not half assed slip into gear. Beyond that, i could really use some advice on a torque converter.
Now on to part two. That is the plan for the trans in the long run, possibly even short run. However, im on a tight budget trying to throw parts together to get ready for a dyno weekend / get together, and i didnt factor in the cost of a transmission (was originally going to keep the ZF). The guy i got the trans from was 90% sure it was the TC that was bad, not the tranny, he just wanted an excuse to drop in a ZF. Tranny only has 152k on it, and if it checks out, i was thinking about doing the shift kit and converter just to get me to washington and back for the dyno day. So i guess my question is, under those circumstances, will the transmission be okay, or is failure eminent? Going to drop the trans off at Aamco sometime this month and have them see what they think.
