double plat spark plugs
I have a 96 Explorer XLT 2WD 4 dr with the 4.0. I recently replaced the head gasket b/c it was leaking down the sides of the block (it wasn't leaking into the cylinders yet), and I decided to replace the plugs as well. I bought Autolite double plats b/c they didn't have enough standard plats, but when I got them home, they weren't gapped. I recall the standard plugs coming gapped, but I gapped them anyway and installed them. Seems to run fine, but when I was gapping them, I noticed that the double plats have little nubs/protrusions on the electrodes. I was wondering if I was supposed to gap them like normal (i.e., the gap between the two terminals) or not (i.e., they were already gapped, but the nubs made it seem like they weren't). Thanks!

The nubs are the platinum electrodes. Far as I know, the gap should be between the nubs. There may be a different application for those plugs and they may have been gapped for something other than yours.
