Module Relocation Question

Hello,

In the next month or so I want to take care of what I see as one of the last weak points in my truck: it's distributor mounted TFI module. I want to relocate it. I'm considering two routes; one is to unwrap the harness, pull out the wires to the module connector and reroute those to the new location, which at this point looks to be very near the fuel pump relay on the driver's side inside-fender. The other will be to make a new harness. I would have to obtain new pins for the ICU connector so I could just pop out the contacts at 4,16,36, and 56 and insert the new contacts in place. And then some other details, such as power from the EEC relay, a lead from the solenoid, and so on. I've attached a schematic from RJM Injection's website, which I hope is accurate. It seems to agree with other schematics I've found, but is more clearly illustrated.

Does anyone see any potential issues with this? Are there any connections that are NOT shown in this schematic? For the 22k resistance in the IDM lead, can I just use a standard 22K resistor? The second approach appeals to me because then I would enjoy knowing I have new wiring connecting these important components together. The original wiring isn't is the best shape after nearly 30 years.

Thank you for your opinions.

Rick

You will have to make a new harness no matter what you do correct? You will need new wires going from the dist to the remote location of the module.

The wires are shielded from electrical Static. McCully racing in PA makes a very nice Relocator set-up with a heatsink too.

Yes, of course. I made some new connectors and a shielded harness for that. But from the other side of the module out to the vehicle harness, the aftermarket doesn't really address that. I wonder what most people do? Do the run new wires from the new location of their module out where their old connection point was, or do the do one of the two things I'm considering? I know if I pulled my harness apart to reroute some stuff, the truck would be off the road for several weeks while I deal with it. I think the parallel harness could be added in a few hours.

The 92 has one factory mounted on the fender well with a heat sink. Maybe do a little junkyard scavenging to get that, make up the relocation harness, thus shortening the down time would seem the best plan of action.
