'47 2 ton. The left front brake drum took 2 hours to remove. It was 34 degrees in the shop and I worked up a sweat. Hope the others go better. Ended up disconnecting the wheel cyl and bottom pivots and pulling it all off the backing plate, which bent the tabs that hold the shoe close. Oh well, now I know how best to attack the other side. Then it will be those crazy huge rears.......Why do I subject myself to this? I coulda been on the couch watching the olympics.
I remember the torpedo. I have had a back and forth life between Southeastern Mass and Northwestern Washington. In Wa. those heaters are usually referred to as a Salamander. I was born out here, but mom was from New Bedford, Dad Mattapoisett. Grandpa from West Harwich, and sold Sisson's Garage, the Ford Agency in Wareham to the Suddard family that still owns it I think. That was in 1928 when my dad was only a year old. Ok, now back to the subject at hand. Here is progress on my brakes. Been many years since I bought kits and rebuilt cylinders instead of new store-bought cylinders. They were in really good shape and the building trades still ain't what the u$ed to be........Looks like you are under a wicked s***load of snow.
i will check tomorrow. but i took the master cylinder and booster out last summer.seems i didn,t or don,t recall having a similar port fitting. i remember that all the fittings came off easly,so maybe i can recreate the system. and i didn,t take any pictures before.
my block has only 3 fittings ,2 outlets for front and 1 for rear brakes and the master cylinder comes in above or behind the block. you can see it on the picture. and i guess i wasn,t so bad ,i mark F R F to remember .
If it helps, Ford p/n for front brake hoses for my 1940 1-1/2 ton panel: 99A-2079-A; 15.5 inches long; $15.95 each from JobLotAuto in April 2015. Rear hose: 01T-2078;17.95 inches long; also $15.95. Sorry, did not buy wheel cylinders.
i was hoping someone would come up with something! but now i mixed up!!! my researching had me come up with 1 3/8. could it be possible theres 2 models !
The front cylinders should be 1 3/8" and the rear cylinders 1 1/2". The master cylinder is 1 1/4". The same wheel cylinders and master cylinder were used on the bigger trucks from '40-'52, ('48-'52 F4 and F5, F6 used different brakes on the rear). The 1 3/8" front wheel cylinders and shoes are also the same as the rear of the '42-'47 tonner, possibly '39-'41 also, but I'm not sure.
