Bunch of searching, and haven't found an answer to my particular set of problems.
2000 Navigator 4x4. Wife drove it to work (2 miles) yesterday. Came out of work last night. . .and the car won't move. None of the forward gears work, reverse doesn't work, and switching from A4wd to 4wdH to 4wdL doesn't make any difference.
The OD light on the stalk isn't lit, and nothing happens when you push the button.
Gear selector moves like normal. It *feels* normal. But gears don't engage.
I swapped the filter this morning. Under the car (with the engine off) I can hear things moving around when she shifts gears.
It has been shifting hard from 1st to 2nd for a few months.
She said she didn't notice anything wrong yesterday when she drove it. . .no bangs, no jolts.
We do have snow/ice on the ground. . .read something about maybe the transfer case is in neutral? Any way to check/fix that?
Would the solenoids suddenly go bad AND would that cause none of the gears to engage?
Obviously I'd like to avoid having it towed to a transmission shop. . .anything else I can check/try before that?

Did you check the fluid (running up to temp, while in park?)
As far as the transfer case being in neutral I think it stays in what ever gear you left it in. It shouldnt go into neutral when you shut it down. What do you mean by it it feels like its going into gear. RPMs lower truck bumps fwd a little?
There is no neutral in the t-case, it is always engaged. What happens when you step on the gas? Does it rev like it's in neutral, or does it act like it's in gear and your foot is on the brake?
