tranny swap

I currently have a 97 f150 4.6 with the romeo motor. I am looking to buy an 02 with a 5.4 with a bad tranny. Im wondering if the transmissions will swap and if so what needs to be changed between the two. I read that the bell housing bolts will line up but I would need to use the 5.4s flex plate and I believe it said it would be wise to use the 5.4s torque convertor as well due to the torque ratios or something. My current truck has entirely too many issues to put the money into it to fix it (4x4 is stuck on or sometimes pops out and wont go back in, terrible miss, needs all new shocks, ball joints, exhaust, tie rods etc, and the body is rotting out on it) Any help anyone can give would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Yes a 5.4 tranny may fit a 4.6. But it will not shift right. In the tranny thats made for a 5.4 and has more tq will have different planetary gear ratios so it will be different then the weaker 4.6 that needs more tq multiplication to get it to pull,,, if u get what i mean.

No the tq converter just acts as a clutch to the tranny. but good idea tho.. im going to school to become a tech and right now where half way through auto trannys. And my instructor was the one who was telling us that one tranny can fit other motors like as far as the casing gos. But the gears inside will be different due to the difference in tq from the motor
