I don't know too much about the mod motors, but I've come across this thread https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/8...-5-4-swap.html from bspainting and is sounds like it should be a pretty easy swap.

Though it's reported weak, I know if I do the swap I'll be easy on the 5-speed as wel because I love it. I have been considering the swap, and here is the best thread I have found (on another site):

Please reply back in this post if you find any more great info on this type of swap.
The issue I think we're going to have is with the tranny. First and foremost, our M5OD's will not be a drag-racing capable type of tranny, so forget gunning it with the 5.4L. Easy starts, and using the HP to tow with should still be OK as long as the driver knows what NOT to do (so they'd be just like the newer Nissan Skyline's - sold new, if someone disables the automatic controls and guns it a few times it will destroy the $20,000 transmission - and lost its warranty). That said, I still think we're going to need to consider stronger clutches for just using them on the highways and byways.
Exhaust manifolds will be higher on a 5.4 motor, so some custom exhaust work will be in order from the manifolds down (and I'm not sure the manifolds will even work due to the steering).
If I do it, I'll also be looking into if larger/thicker radiators were offered for 5.4 motors.
