I'm looking for a different horn something louder than the factory horn which is 17 yrs. old. WOLO Big Bad Max model-619 or PIAA 8511 comes to mind Do any members have these on their F-250. I don't want to spend 100's on a compressor-tank set up There are reviews on different sites but I'd be inclined to believe recommendations from folks here instead.
TIA,
tom from mass.
Well since nobody else replied, all I can recommend is DON'T bother with those wimpy plastic air horns with the remote mount tank-less compressor. Dad picked up a set and had me come over and put them on his Mustang a few years ago. Neither of us were real impressed with them. Not sure on the horns where the compressor and horn are one unit, but they're probably not much louder than stock and I don't think they can take much water before they fail.
I have Buell/Hornblasters air horns on mine. But they're a couple hundred bucks, and that doesn't include the air system to run them which I put together myself so that it would be belt driven off the engine... another couple hundred bucks there but now I can run air tools also, and my horns can take any water that gets in... a good shot of air clears them right out.
My buddy used a big tank he got for free mounted on the frame rail, and a single air horn he bought at an antique shop. All he has to do is charge the tank once in a while. Probably less than $50 total, if you want to consider it, and still have the stock horns for backup (I also still have my stock horns).
If you find something good like the Wolo or whatever, post it up here so that others can find it when they search!
