IIRC, Blackstone UOAs were only $20 or $25. Been a while, though. Whether it's $20 or $35, you're spending it to tell you not about your $50 oil change, but about your $3000 engine.
Who knows why the ICP dropped? Was it definitely oil related or one of 100 other possibilities? I dunno, my oil stays clean until about 6k.
Byron, I've put A LOT of miles on this engine with the setup that I'm running on it. I can tell you this... My HPOP is not big enough for my injectors. If it were, then it wouldn't drop ICP at all. It is because of this though that I can notice when the oil is thicker or thinner. For example, when the oil is at 100*, it will hold 2900-3000psi ICP, but with the oil at 200*, I can only hold ~2700psi . Why is that? Easy.. The oil thins out as it gets hotter.
As the oil gets used more and more, it also becomes thinner. 3000 mile oil in my truck @ normal temp of ~190* will only hold ~2300psi ICP. Change the oil, get it up to temp and it will hold 2600-2700psi. 3000 miles later, I can only hold 2300psi again. I've done this time and time again and I can even feel the difference in power after changing my oil.

+1...
T6 is about $22-$23/gal after tax (x4)
Motorcraft filter is ~$10
UOA at Blackstone $25 (Priceless)
So an oil change costs me about $125 but I only change it every 18 or so months so it's not bad.

My last one was $35 -ish from what I recall 3 or 4 years ago, was $28 or something when I started using Blackstone. Not sure what they are now.
I like to protect my $3000 engine with a $50 oil change, not with a $35 oil analysis.

Good deal Travis. That is real world info and I can get behind that. I guess I should have been more clear in saying that I can not get behind the "my truck runs so much better after an oil change" mentality. I went from 15w-40 to 10w-30 Rotella this last change and I definitely noticed a better idle and got a little bit better mpg. I am also all stock and you are not, so that might lend to the loss in power difference. My truck has run no better or worse after a 6k mile run using 15w-40 before I went with a 10w-30 run. Again, show me numbers and not "feel goodie" and I can get on board. I'll be going back to 15w-40 Rotella when I change it this weekend. I have 6500 miles on this run and have noticed no difference in driveability, but I do not have and sort of gauge giving me numbers. It might be suffering a little but have no way of knowing. It "feels" the same though.

It will tell you fuel, TBN, and soot levels. That is pretty much the cleanliness and usability of your oil in a diesel.

An oil change isn't information. A UOA will detect traces of coolant or fuel that you'd never find by any other means, but which, left unattended, could be costly. Not to say that a UOA is worthwhile with every oil change, but a baseline and an occasional re-test can tell you of things that can't be "fixed" with an oil change.
