wires through firewall

1997 F-250 horn pad is dead. Time to install push button horn kit. Where is the best place to get the wires from the cab through the firewall into the engine area so I can tap into the battery. Any suggestions on where to locate the push button? If I make a bracket to attach to the horn pad and have plenty of slack would that work or would the connection eventually break from turning the steering wheel?
TIA,

I put an industrial 22mm pushbutton in the side of my 94's steering wheel. It was a recessed type, where the button is flush with the body. Easy enough to mash the button with a finger while driving... and keeps that same finger busy so you can't salute to the guy that just cut you off.

Why would you run the wires to the battery? If all that's bad is the horn pad then just use the existing horn wires in the column.

By the way you just ground the horn wire to make it do its thing.

Maybe replacing the clockspring would bring the horn pad back to life. Just a thought.

If I am not mistaken, the HD trucks never got airbags and therefore all used the 92-93 style pads. If that's the case I feel like it would be easier to get a new (used) pad from the JY and swap it in.

EDIT: Evan beat me to it.

Yeah a horn pad is probably like $5 from the yard. Only reason I didn't replace mine is because I was *extremely* broke when that happened and couldn't afford to drive to the yard which was probably 25 miles away.

I thought about the JY. But I figured anything I found would be 17 yrs. old or older and the same thing would happen. Besides I thought getting the Big Bad Max horn from WOLO would be louder than the stock.
Until I fix it I'm covered by the sticker on my tailgate that says "horn broken...watch for finger"
