Can anyone give me instructions to where the green wire goes i originally thought it went on the yellow green wire comming off of the coil where it says tach test i just thought before i spent money for a tach and spliced a bunch of wires i would check to se if someone had more info on the subject
ok the clip that goes on the coils has wires comming out of two different ends two red wires come out of one end and one wire comes out of the other end the color is yellow - green above it it says tach test is that the negative wire for the coil also what wire on the instrument panel should the illumination wire be attached to I was thinking of mounting it over the heater control, which wire behind the dash illuminates the heater control panel
I didnt buy a tach yet but I think I am going to buy a sunpro 0-8000 chrome bezel tach at autozone for 49.99 do you think this is a good tach for the price.
also I dont have a stock radio anymore in fact when my grandpa bought the truck he had them take out the factory radio and had a better radio installed now there is a cd player in it and when i wired it i didnt see the illumination wire forthe original radio but even if it is not there the ash tray one will be there right
Sunpro will be fine.
I like a tach with a large sweep because the increments are smaller.
Gotcha, BUT, the wire harness should still be there because it comes out of the main harness.
Look for a black connector male/female with a Black wire & a blue /red stripe wire.

what if I just put a fuse clip on the illumination wire and cliped it on to the instrument panel illum. fuse it should only come on then when the instrument panel is lit. If the doesnt work though is the red w/brue stripe wire also the color off the lights switch because today I tried to find the wire harness with that wire you were talking about and there are several wire harnesses and they are all attached to clips under the dash that make it very hard to get at
I believe there is a green wire going to the top of the coil, and if I remember correctly there is the word "tach" written on that side of the coil, just connect the hot side to that wire and ground the other, and that should work.
So if you hooked it to the fuse like I was going to do does it dim with the lights switch also MIL1ION I pulled out the radio and looked for the wire I found a blue/red wire like you said to look for it is about 16 guage and is connected to the key so mabey it is not the one i am sure if I keep looking I will find It

are you sure it is a very small gauge wire 16 or 18. also it is wired to the ignition. also where do you think it should be mounted. I thought at first it should be mounted on the dash but then how do you hide the wires then I thought on the steering collum but then I thought it might be in the way of the instrument panel mainly the speedometer. Now I am thinking that seeing as my truck is a fresh air type vent system and there are no vents there I might cut a hole in the dash by the door where it used to have a spot check thingy. At the moment it holds the keypad for my broken super horn so I think I will take it of and put my tach there what do you think
