Message Center buttons not working
When turning left at slow speed there was a click sound that came from the upper part of the steering column (similar to the sound you got with the indicators on in the old super duties when turning and it would go over the clockspring). It hasn't repeated the noise since.
Anyways, a week or so after this, I happened to try to use the buttons for my message center to reset my odo, which I rarely use. Didn't work. In fact all of the 5 buttons associated with the message center on the left side of my steering wheel are not working, but the cruise control buttons are. The buttons on the right side of the steering wheel are also working fine.
I am not sure if the noise in the steering column is related (but it has me suspicious...), or just coincidental, but wondered on peoples thoughts to diagnose.
I pulled off the cover over the steering column, all the wires in and out of the clockspring look fine, I haven't pulled the switch yet (need to look at the service manual to make sure I don't break it as I do it), but wanted to see if anyone else had experienced this, and if so, what was the diagnosis.
I am sure you are aware, all 5 buttons are a single circuit with varying resistance.
The wiring diagram doesn't reference the CC going through the clockspring, and at least not on the same loom, so that makes me more suspicious that its the clockspring.
I'll see if I can test it with my friend this weekend who has all the electrical testing equipment. If it can't be repaired with a hammer, I am pretty useless
.But CC goes to SCCM and 5 button goes to IPC.
I was just looking at this the other day because I have the opposite problem, 5 button works but CC does not.
