I've been on FTE for over 5 years now, but I was hanging out in the OBS diesel forum until now.
Just bought a 2006 Supercab XLT 4x4 with a 5.4, only 25,600 miles on it, and I got it for almost $3k under blue book!
Anything in particular I should check out on it really thoroughly before putting some miles on it? It was owned by an older guy, and it appears that he just used it for camping every once in a while. Has a trailer brake controller installed and you can tell it sat for a little while.
The only bad part about buying it woth so few miles is youll have to deal with the factory spark plugs
I read up on that and the procedure for removal. Do you think that's something I should do soon because of the age of the truck? I was told that Ford recommends replacing them at 60k, but that would probably be 3 years from now with the amount I drive.
What brand/type of spark plugs are recommended to replace the stockers?
Are the plugs pretty easy to access? I remember doing the plugs on my '95 T-bird with the 4.6 and it wasn't too awful.

Where is the module located? I remember seeing pictures of one that was corroded but don't remember where it was. I'm assuming it's along the frame on the driver side...
I dont think you need to do it immediately but eventually around 100k you should. Might want to go ahead and save the 60 bucks for the extractor tool. The plugs are your call I couldnt recommend any. Hearing your a diy guy youll save hundreds doing it yourself and its not too bad

Yep, my jaw dropped when I heard how much Ford wanted to do a tune-up ($1,200).
A good friend of mine is a mechanic at the local Ford dealer, so he has lots of good info for me and can help me out.

Thank you! I'll take a look at it and make sure it's in good shape.
