OK I bought the stc soft top and I have it almost done to the best of my ability, which i hope means no leaks. I can;t figure out the last part were to screw in the clips for the back bow. It says on the tail gate inset. your supposed to loop that strap around it to hold the back bow in place. I can't figure out where I;m supposed to mount them. ALso one of the snaps on the soft top has already broke where can i get another one? are they from stc only? THanks in advance guys.
Have never installed one of these tops so I can't be much help on the installation process but the snaps should be available from any fabric/sewing supply store. They will also sell the tools for removing and installing the snaps so as not to damage the fabric.
specifically (copying the elevant info in case the fte comp program changes the url);
"... Note: instructions stated to bolt the rear bow into the center hole of the "bow realese bracket". In this pic I did, top in rear too high. It belongs in the first set of holes, I checked this on another Bronco top. Item 9 is the bow release bracket...My rear bows WERE not quite bent right, so my rear curtain did not fit/zip all the way down properly. No problem I will just be slightly bending each a few degrees and fit should be about as good as I can expect. (UPDATE) Bent the rearmost top frame hoop and now it fits almost perfect. Note the connection of the bows to the body. Mine has the "dark tint" window, not all that dark, so I like it. At the very bottom left is the black wrapped wiring for my third brake...which will be used on my custom, carrier mounted third brake light. This way, it's plug n play. ..
This is my answer to not drilling the taligate. The two piece aluminum provided is joined by another angle piece of aluminum about 4' in length. The snaps hold it together as one piece and an added strip of 3/8" marine/auto black weatherstrip goes on the bottom. Snap the rear window to this, zip down the sides, and it weighs enough to rest right in the channel just outside the rear window channel. This has worked perfectly at stopping rain and does not buffet in wind. And no tailgate drilling. "
Juice is aok...he will help ya if you need more info!
I put my loops on the sides of the truck, closest to the tail gate. Do not put them on the tail gate or you will not be able to lower the gate with out taking the straps off.
Wow! I was just going to ask about these tops. Do these tops have rails to snap on to?
What type of drilling is required? and what quallity is the top? http://www.specialtytopco.com/
Does anyone know if you can you leave the aluminum railings for the soft top on the truck and still be able to put the hard top back on? I am interested in the STC top as well.
