Maybe you should do the CCV mod and see if that helps keep the oil out of the intake.

I think I'll do that. I'd like to include a collector bottle just to see how much oil I might collect without the turbo sucking it into the manifold. Also, if that cleans up my air-induction piping, I won't sweat the turbo rebuild too much; but I will still worry about where the **** all the oil is going.

I don't use a collection can. Flip the doghouse around and run a hose off of it up and over the brake booster. Most oil will run back into the head. I only get a drip every now and again.

Route the CCV to a splitter, run two hoses, one to each cab mount at the radiator support. Constant supply of oil will prevent rust....

Thanks for the great suggestions. Maybe I could route it to the rear differential to keep it topped up. I've been looking back at arguments about whether the ccv needs the vacuum from the intake to keep it working or not. Evidently a lot of folks don't think it's necessary, since they've done the mod. What size/ type of hose do I need? The outlet seems to be 3/4 in, but it would sure be convenient to run somewhat smaller, more flexible hose.

I used 3/4" ID up and over the brake booster then once down by the frame 1" ran it out by the rear end of the front tank and cut the hose on a 60 degree bias for more surface area.
I also put in a plastic water filter housing inline stuffed with fine steel wool (catch can with drain) that I check and drain periodically. Picture of filter in sig link 97 folder fluid mods.

Cheers

Thanks for the info, JCart. I like your pics. Did you use fuel hose for that, or what?

Any junk hose will work. Once I got mine down on the frame I used garden hose.

I've got an old roll of 3/4" heater hose. Maybe I've finally found a use for it. Thanks for all the help.

Genius!!

I have heard that some oils "mist" more than others and therefore more gets consumed via the CCV than other oils. I use Rotella T from Sams or wally world and have to add about 3 or more quarts between my oil changes. At 165,000 I don't think it burns a lot of oil and the truck gets driven as a grocery getter on the weekends.

What I am saying is that you may not really have a problem.

Of course, maybe I do and I'm in denial!

I run Delo. That's wha the excavation company I worked for ran in this truck (and every other piece of equipment) from day 1 when they bought it. The company I work for now uses it exclusively too. But the LE stuff sure looks thin and pathetic compared to the old days.

The only reason I'm really concerned is that it never burned a qt between changes before, even if was hauling the Bobcat, dump trailer or mini-excavator with it. This is also nearly true for my 92 F250 7.3IDI. It has 360,000mi+ on it, smokes like a mother if you bog it down at all, but rarely burns more that a quart of motor oil in 3K miles. I just don't see what's changed all of a sudden.

I did the vent mod yesterday. Had to wait on a seal kit for the doghouse from dieselorings. Ran heater hose over the booster, down on the outside of the frame rail, and terminated the line at one of my running-board supports under the driver's side front part of the box. With rubber-coated electrical loom hangers holding it in place, it has a nice slope from the top of frame rail to the final downturn, so if it's pushing oil I should be able to detect it easily. Just got fresh new oil so we'll see what consumption is in the near future.

Now that I've been screwing around with it, I guess I'll start looking at air intake and exhuast mods...what have I started?
