I have 190,000 miles on my 1993 f150 302 efi 2wd, all stock and have decided it is time for a rebuild. I don't know what kind of cam, heads, etc to get. I want to get more performance out of this 5.0 but I want to keep its dependability as it is a daily driver. I looked into e303 but I've heard that's a bad choice? I occasionally tow a 20' boat
Honestly, you won't be able to stray all that far from stock without switching from your speed density based system to a MAF-based system. So before we start choosing parts, is that a path you're interested in going down?
What gearing does your truck have? You should know that all upgrades to the 5.0 except for adding a supercharger increase upper rpm horsepower only, if you make good choices the existing low rpm power will not be impacted but very often the motor is actually made weaker below 2000rpm with these "upgrades". As a result vehicle gearing is very important to achieving acceptable performance as a work vehicle, even with stock tires 3.55 gears are the bare minimum with 3.73 or 4.10 gears being required for any type of towing performance.
Outside that there are a lot of upgrades available for the 5.0 but the EFI system in your truck will limit what can be done and still remain drivable, those systems can also be upgraded but you could spend considerable money and effort on that too... just so you know.

Would you recommend the MAF or would scraping it and going old school with a carb be better?
i agree with them both. MAF is the way to go. there is a thread on page 1 i think on how to go about it. my buddy just bought a 1995 f150 with a 351w SD and im still trying to convince him to convert to MAF. as for engine components i really like my kb115 flat tops and all my other internals are stock. if you dont want to get crazy with it get some GT40 heads or port the E7's that are on it. Gears are a must. ive got a 1994 4wd F150 with a 306 in it and the gearing is only 3.31. its a real dog. im getting ready to finish my head/ header/ cam swap and then im going with 4.10s from the suggestion of Paul ^^^^^ and i will have everything i need in a truck. The big key here is you really need to match your components for the actual use of the vehicle. daily driver/ towing/ mild play/ "mall queen"/ ect and build from there. Happy Building n post pics
