I just read an article that was worthy of me posting on here. The article talks about the top ten most reliable used vehicles. Ford's full-sized trucks made the list, and by proxy, the Excursion too. Here's the full paragraph:
5. Ford full-sized trucks (V-8 and V-10 models)
While Dodge remains a distant third, and Toyota and Nissan have barely made a dent in the full-size truck business, Ford has become Chevy's equal in the segment, and in certain cases, now the superior choice. The now defunct Ford Excursion holds the title as the third most reliable full-sized SUV in our study (the Land Cruiser and LX are first and second). Meanwhile the Ford F-Series is based on the P-platform which regularly yields that V-8, rear-wheel drive, body-on-frame combination that has made the F-150 the best selling vehicle in America for 32 years running.
Yep-this goes along with what I see through my shop as well. I have to say - my Ex was on a flatbed one time.... the previous owner put a shift kit of some kind in along with an aftermarket torque converter. The TC failed by splitting along a seam and blowing fluid everywhere. Love my Fords!
It's included with the excursions. That's why it was rated 3rd most reliable. If the 6.0's were left out, the excursion would be at the top of the list.
The V8s and V10s were explicitly mentioned in the article, so I'm not too sure where the diesels fall into the mix. It has been nearly 9 years since the last Excursion was produced so by now, we know what the Excursion's weaknesses are. I would purchase any gas or diesel powered Excursion without hesitation. All the engines are stout.
Its easy to be reliable when you're soooooooo sloooooow.
Slow but steady. Mine let me down once, failed alternator. Try to find n alternator camping in northern Michigan during 4th of July weekend.
By the way I see Michelin LTX MS in your sig, do you run these in snow where you live? I currently have them mounted, but not much tread left on them and not to impressed, but maybe new ones are better.
I haven't had my V10 as long as many of you have had your rigs, but all I've HAD to do to it was:
Replaced a battery (right after purchase)
Replaced an alternator (close to home, so no flatbed needed)
Re-did some cable ends (battery, ground, alternator)
The bottom side is still bone dry and I'm a lucky one who had a prior owner who didn't live in a salt state.
Sure, I dropped some coin on suspension fixes and interior dress ups (I'm still hearing from the wife on how much the F650 dash cost), but all things considered and as much abuse as I've given it, I'm more than happy! You'll have to pry the keys from my cold, dead hands...
