I have a 76 F100 short bed w/o AC and w/ gauges not warning lights. My printed board went bad so I picked up a replacement instrument cluster only to find out the wireing harness plug is differrent. I got the correct plug with the replacement panel and was going to just cut and splice in the new connection. The new panel has the following numbers on the back D3TF-10848. I think this came out of a 74 truck but am not 100% sure. Can anyone tell me if I am doing the right thing or do I need to find the correct panel for my plug? And can anyone tell me the wiring for both mine and the replacement so I can make the correct splices.
Ford is very good about keeping plugs and wire colors the same over the years. If the plug doesn't fit then they have changed the location of the wires, it will be tough to figure out where everything goes. I'd find the right one if I were you.
You must not cut or splice the BLACK with GREEN stripe wire that serves as input to the ICVR. It's a resistor wire. The insulation should even say "DO NOT CUT OR SPLICE."
I really don't recommend cutting and splicing back here. It's not going to turn out the way you want.
I had the same problem with my 73, had three extra 78 /79 panels but found out they are not the same . Mine worked good , i just wanted an extra for just in case i needed it later. I did find another 73 /74 one and bought it for the future if needed .
