As from my other thread, some members here said my thermostat is bad based on my ScangaugeII reading. Here's the thread https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/showthread.php?p=13999012#post13999012 . I have never done this and am trying to figure out if this is something that I could do myself or do I need to go to a shop. What all is involved to change out a thermostat on a 2003 F250 6.0? Will I need to add more coolant? What are some good brands of thermostat?
Get a thermostat from Ford. Too many poor thermostats available from other suppliers.
Drain a couple of gallons of coolant out of the bleeder at the bottom of the radiator. Then the thermostat comes out by loosening a hose clamp and the two housing bolts. Nothing to it. Put everything back together and poor the coolant back in.

Its just as easy as that.
I leave the hose attached and use it to pull the t-stat housing up for easier access.
Great, I won't need a shop then. Whats the torque on the bolts and where is all this located? I just had my coolant flushed last month so could I re-use the coolant if I keep it clean as possible?
Taking out the air filter will be the biggest pain. I absolutely hate pulling the air filter, just a terrible design. From there everything gets better.

I just did this last night on my 05' I had bolts. Absolutely no need to pull the air filter or housing or cac pipe. Yes it makes for a little easier access but it took longer to drain the coolant than I did to loosen the two bolts and swap the thermostat. I also left the hose on to make it easier to pull it out. 17 ftlbs is what I found in All data as well. A rag stuffed In the opening and a piece is scotch Brite to clean the sealing surface mine wasn't to bad but I like mating surfaces clean.

What do you think about an aftermarket intake for the air filter?
Oem is the best you can get unless your producing big hp. Air filter is easy to get out. Take off your return coolant line. Take off your boot that runs to your turbo right before the ccv. Pull up from the back and it all comes out in one piece. Oh unhook your two sensors before you pull up.
