[HELP] Bronco that sat for a year

Hi all,

I just bought a 92' Bronco EB Edition from a guy, he own it for 5 years and had let it sit since about a year before today. I bought the truck and it's started fine, but after towing it to my place, the engine misfires a lot and give out a really rich petrol smell.

I'm new to Ford Trucks and V8s, so please give me guidance of what to do right now. I just want it to start and running.

Check the fuel pressure regulator. The diaphragm may have ruptured.

It's the bright, round flying saucer looking thing on the driver side fuel rail, at the rear, with the vacuum hose attached to it.

Pull that vacuum hose to check for gasoline inside it. There should NOT be any gas on the vacuum side.

Ok. I will check it when it's bright out tomorrow morning.

Should I also replace all spark plugs too ? Just for a start ?

Whenever I get a new to me used vehicle I give it a thorough tune-up and check all wear items, like hoses, belts, brakes etc, etc, and replace as I see fit.

Yeah guess I'll bring it to a tune up.
Any known issues with this generation of Bronco and also the 302 ?

Just tried to start the car, I can't identify that fuel pressure regulator, is it towards the right-hand side of the firewall?

I bought a new battery for it, it cranks but then sometimes the starter just knocks and doesn't start.

Even if the engine tries to rev itself up, it always fail to completely start. Is it because the engine is misfiring ?

Well, that thing is 22 years old so don't expect perfect reliability.

5.0's are very reliable motors, but after that long things are wearing out, degrading, getting dirty, so on and so on.

When I got my 96 last summer with 188,000 miles on it there were some things that I was just expecting to have to fix soon after.

Alternator replaced, starter replaced, water pump replaced, belt replaced, tensioner replaced, fuel pump replaced, heater core replaced, plus repairing some of the bad repairs previous owners have attempted.

I consider that part and parcel of buying such old vehicles. I'll have to repair things fairly regularly for a couple of months and then I won't have to work on them for a quite a while. I get them to settle down with a little bit of proper work. Mine is getting there.

Standing in front of the Bronco, the regulator is on the right side of the engine, at the back. Unless your truck is different.

(For future reference, left and right on a vehicle is determined normally facing forward in the driver's position. So the driver side is the left side and the passenger side is right.)
