Gentlemen, steering question

It's been a while since I've been around, life has been trying my patience.
But I have a minor issue I was hoping some-one could help me with before I go searching junkyards.

I have a 79 F-150 2wd 8 ft bed, 460 auto with manual steering.

I built a bracket for a pump I have and bought a reman PS gear.

The only info I can not find, is if there is a difference between a power and manual pitman arm,(2wd), and if there is, is it just a length difference where I can use the wrong one but it may change the amount of travel?

anyone run across this yet?

I'll take a stab at this since nobody else has answered yet. I think if you have the recirculating ball type steering box, which looks very much like the Ford power steering box, it will use the same pitman arm. If you have the worm and sector type, which looks like a little square steering box, it will definitely use a different arm.

If I were you, I'd go to my local NAPA and have them look it up to be sure.

I couldn't find anyone that listed it, it doesn't have a ball, just the 2 machined ends, so they don't wear out, and because of that nobody makes it anymore.

I was just hoping for a hint from here, I have to bring it in my shop this week anyway, I'll scope it out then.

Who are you replying too? and why are you replying to every thread?

as long as the splined end of the arm is the same, it should mount up. 2wd and 4wd swap as well, along with some chevy and dodge applications. (70's and 80's 4wd chevy and ford highboy are different design) the length and drop could be different, as well as the size (and direction) of the tapered hole for the drag link. im not sure on 2wd, but I would think manual and power steering arms would be the same.

that being said, 2wd power gearboxes are very common. shouldn't be hard to find the correct arm.

90% of his posts are the canned "carpet bomb" response. Dude is a wack job.

This new guy is probably a fellow we know and love from Montana, back trolling after having been banned. Just a guess. I can't think of why anyone else would go through the trouble of doing this. The timeline would make sense, and it would explain why he's bashing 77&79F250 so much.

Gotcha. For some reason I thought I remembered him randomly attacking you on the forums for no reason, but then again he did that to a lot of folks (including me). Until all that happened, he was a pretty good person to have around; it's unfortunate. Oh well.
