Button on steering column switch

Can anyone tell me what the little button that pushes in on the turn signal switch does? It is the little brown button at the 4 o'clock position in the picture below. I know the steering wheel pushes it in when installed, but not sure what it does. Thanks!

That is your horn contact. It is a ground tripped relay system.

Makes horn pad work. Look on back side steering wheel contact ring.

Cool, I thought that is what it may be. Does this switch tend to go bad?

The horn works every now and then for a beep or two, but that is it. I checked the rag joint and there is no ground wire jumping across it like I have read it is supposed to. But it still works sometimes??
