Good afternoon.
I'm getting ready to do the conversion on my 77 highboy. I'll be using a 78/79 box. I saw pics of a conversion highboy70 completed, and the box sat right behind the crossmember rather than notching it. Is there any drawback to this position? He had to trim the radiator and support a bit but this SEEMS preferable to notching the crossmember. I'd appreciate input before I start cutting things up. Here is a link to his gallery photos.
I don't see a problem with it if your sticking with push/pull steering. A lot of guys that go with a 78/79 box go crossover as well. With crossover and your box in that spot I think the pitman arm and drag link would hit the engine crossmember.
