the problem is that the rear of the truck sits pretty high when not towing but it is perfect with the trailer attached.
I had a similar issue...did the V/Modded B to fix the front bottoming out issue - truck sat perfect unloaded, but hitched it sagged a bit. Added the air bags and now it sits great unloaded @ 15psi and sits the exact same loaded @ 65psi.
Took a little doing to dial it in where I wanted it, but I'm loving the end result.
Word of caution...if you have a shop do the work AND procure the springs, make sure they find the springs still on the vehicle so you can verify the spring code, or make sure they are confident that the shop they are buying the right springs. The numbers stamped on the springs are not to be trusted. Those of us that did the swap ourselves usually pulled the springs from the donor truck or at least visually verified the spring code on the door sticker.
Others (I think it was someone at CT Performance) decided to go all Franken-spring and take the bottom two leaves off of your stock rear suspension and add them to the B code springs on the bottom...
I can't remember the name of the guy who first came up with the idea at The Diesel Stop, but back then, CaryT had tried a few different suspension setups for his Excursion. If memory serves, he spent a bit of coin before he decided to try the modded B code idea. After he did, and realizing the results were absolutely awesome, he pretty much perfected the package setup and is now running a successful business for Excursion suspensions.
Back then, when I was deciding which way I wanted to mod my Ex (it was a few months after Cary modded his suspension and decided to try the modded B codes), I took the easy way out and used the larger tapered blocks. I was too scared to mod my springs.
Honestly, if I were new to the scene today and just starting, and I didn't wanna piece together my own package and I had the cash, I'd call Cary at CT Performance and just buy his setup. It's a well thought out, proven setup for the Excursion. Plus, from everything I've read, Cary has excellent customer service. I've never spoken with him, but he has an excellent internet rep, and that says a lot.
