Welcome to the forum.

I suggest returning your for back to normal

As for your e-brake, yes it is semi common. It sounds like you broke a cable

I had the same thing happen back in the fall, went to set the brake and snapped the cable. Still haven't fixed it, Just can't leave it in neutral...LOL

Look for broken cables along your drivers side frame.
Also are you dragging your rear brakes?

I believe he means when you pushed on the Ebrake did the brakes start to set then the cable broke? If it did then your parking brakes are partially applied and they could cause overheating, pad ware and bad gas mileage.

Well, if the cable broke the brakes would release and not be holding. Or am I missing something here?

Sometimes the cable slips from its place along the drivers frame, midway down the frame. I had it slip out of the bracket. That's the best way I can explain it without a picture.

No you're right, if the cable broke then the brakes would release.

I am getting horrible gas mileage. Could that really be the reason?

In the rust belt, I've had my cables snap and seize in the protective sleeve.
Have you inspected anything?

You wouldn't have to drive very far before one or both the rear drum(s) got HOT. Had you been using your parking brake regularly?

It broke a long time ago. I've probably only driven about six months worth since but my gas mileage is ridiculous. After reading this thread it did feel like the brakes were dragging. I haven't inspected anything yet. i just thought i broke something and didn't ever feel like fixing it but my truck rolled back down a gradual grade the other day parked in gear. So i posted this ad. Getting better gas mileage would be greatly appreciated. If i find the cable has worked itself loose of the guide or snapped what all is involved in replacing or fixing it. What kind of expenses might i incur? Any and all feedback is greatly appreciated. Thanks everyone.

It sounds exactly like a broken cable. This link will show you a drawing of the parking brake cable system:

Truck Parts and Truck Accessories

The cable from the pedal runs under the left (driver's) side of the cab. About the back of the cab, the equalizer (part # 11) splits to two cables, one to each rear wheel. Either one of the cables broke or pulled through the equalizer.
