I know that this is a Truck Forum, but maybe I can get an answer anyway as the setup on both the F-150 and Crown Vic is the same. I got a code that 6 was misfiring and when I pulled the COP, the well was half full of oil. I cleaned it out, cleaned out the COP extension, cleared the codes and the problem went away. A few months later a code for 5 did the same. Same problem, well was half full of oil. Also, during this time, when the outside temp went above 85 degrees, the vehicle wanted to overheat with the a/c on. I started the route of first doing the manifold gasket change and found that the manifold was broken just below the thermostat housing. I replaced the manifold.
My question is would this cause the overheat? There was no loss of coolant and which is been typical of most Fords that I have owned, when it was time for an oil change, it was anywhere between 1/2 to one quart low.

have you tested for hydrocarbon gases in the coolant?
how about flushing the radiator ?
the broken intake manifold....may have...pinched the T stat a bit to make it sticky in operation and the T stat stuck shut....then resulting in over heating
No problems with the coolant. The aluminum crossover appeared ok, but I got a new one with the intake. There is no blowby that I can find. The car runs like a demon that it was built to be. With trac control on it will bark the tires on the 1-2 shift and wiggle it's *** into 3rd at 80. I have it tuned to the police pack so 150 mph is no problem. I won't know if I got it fixed until the temps go up and I need the a/c.
