Coolant flow/bypass question

Gentlemen,

I too am looking for a Coolant Kit, but I do have a question. I have a 04 6.0l Diesel and live in Texas and it gets pretty hot here and the cab gets hot from the heater core when you first turn on the cooling fan (A/C) even with the temp setting all the way to cool. So I installed two ball valves to cut off the coolant to the internal heater core (1 going in & 1 going out) during the summers. Now to keep the coolant system moving, I will on occasion turn the valves back on to let the coolant circulate, but most of the time I keep them closed. My question leads to this - in reviewing most Coolant Filter Kits, they tie into the Heater flow hose and into the Coolant Bowl. If I have closed the heater core down, will the Coolant filter kit work or is there another way to hook up the Filter Kit?

Thanks Fellas.Andy

As long as you tie in to heater hose BEFORE your valve it should work.

The excursion (and i think crewcabs) have a vacuum activated shutoff to the heater core to automatically do what you do manually.

My 06 Supercab XLT has the vacuum valve on the heater supply line.

As for the filter, install it before the ball valves so it has full coolant flow

Here is a Pic of the Vac Valve these Guys are talking about

This Valve Cuts off the HOT Coolant from entering the Cab when the A/C is On

Hi Fellas,

This was PERFECT - just what I needed to know and thanks for the Pic by Blade35 that was great. I put my ball valve just beyond the bend where the vacumn valve is and the hose goes straight - it was easy to put in.

I have a diesel shop doing a EGR delete and a new Oil Cooler for me and I want to put in a coolant filter to keep this from getting clogged up again.

Thanks A Lot to all of you.

Andy
