New Forum User and Deisel Owner

I'm new to the FTE forum ! I joined the forum do to becoming a new 6 liter owner. I have seen lots of different reviews about the 6 liter deisel and hope I made a good investment !

I just purchased an 07 F250 4 dr with 32000 back in September this past year. So far the truck has been great! I haven't done any mods to the truck yet but I know of a few mods that seem almost critical from what I have read.

So , I did buy a SCT tuner , the XE model and plan to run a tune for fuel . Not planning to put the foot into the throttle very often .

1st Q? is: Are there any factors about running the truck "Stock" with the tuner I should be aware of or worried about before I install the tuner ?

I know the norm is "stud the heads , exhaust , Air Intake , egr delete etc...."

So, I guess before I go as far as dropping any huge amount of money to do all the mods I just want to know if it is ok to run sct's pre tunes from the factory or if there are any other advise to that nature ?

Thank guys for any NOOB info you can give !!

Welcome to FTE!

I think you nailed a few points. I would recommend not towing tuned without studs, and make sure your truck is up to temp before romping the throttle.

From time to time drive it like you stole it to exercise the turbo... I am not tuned AT THE MOMENT so others that are will chime in...

Oh, you need gauges! Scan Gauge II, Torque App, or Dashboss are among the most popular here. They will save you money by detecting issues before they get really expensive!

Welcome to the Forum.

First thing I would do is get a gauge. I use a ScanGauge2. Set up the X-gauges and play around with it.

I would advise the Blue Spring mod. It's pretty easy and cheap insurance.

Check out the tech folder, there is some great info there.

Lastly, mild tunes are considered head bolt safe, not sure I agree. Driving habits have a lot to do with it. Use your best judgement.

WELCOME!! I consider my self a noob only owning mine for a little over a year. Stick with the stock air filter. It's good if not better than aftermarket/performance air filters up to at least 500hp. Enjoy the ride!

I am also a noob as I have only had my truck since July. Mine too has not been problematic. I rest assured that if I ever have problems this is the right place to bring them as I have witnessed these guys point many 6.0 owners in the right direction. With all that being said I also recommend gauges for your truck. I have a Scan Gauge 2 and like it. It really helps you understand the health of your engine, however it does look like a device from the 1980's. I was looking at a post that had some screen shots of the Torque Pro App and it looks really cool. I might investigate some mounting options for my tablet in the truck and might go that way. It might not be any better of a system but it looks cool!

I run a custom tune on mine with bolts and its doing fine. May want to change out your coolant to ecl cat1 if it doesnt already have it. Coolant is just as important as any other liquid in these trucks. Also run a good 5w40 syn oil like rotella. Watch your vitals and run only oem fuel, oil and tranny filters. Go ahead and change your external tran filter and you will be in great shape.

Thanks for the advice man! I will do as described in your comment. What kind of tune are you running as far as (how aggressive)of a tune ? I would like to squeeze as much out of it in stock formation without the damage factor!

Its called the Street runner from Drew at Backroadperformance. He is good and customer service is top notch. His prices are way better as well. He does only sct tuning. I can give you his number if you want.

Welcome to FTE

Sounds like you went down the typical path of a New Diesel owner, Buy a Diesel and Slam a Tuner on it without any supporting Mods.

BUT at least you got the Correct tuner that Agrees with the 6.0L and Trans

For longevity
It would be a Good Idea to go with Erics (Bobcat) advice and get a Custom Tune for a NON Studded Truck and they seam to do Fine. I would Also add to shut off the EGR Valve with the tuner

CPB1 Mentioned a Fuel Spring Mod/upgrade this is very important with a Tune. Even Folks that are Not tuned do this Mod to increase Injector Life. Low Fuel Pressure Kills injectors Fast

IDK if someone mentioned it but a Coolant filter and swapping to a Extended Life Coolant seems to be the way to go.

Also if you haven't done so it would be a Great time to Change ALL Fluids and Filters (Except air filter use the minder they are usually good for 75k-100k)

Your Trans fluid is High on list and odds are it never been changed
